Edison Opera The Edison Opera model cylinder phonograph is one of the favorite Edison models of collectors today. It was the last Edison cylinder model with an exposed horn to be introduced, and was also the top of the line at $90. It was produced beginning in November 1911 and officially discontinued in October 1913, although a few units continued to be shipped from stock over the next few months. The Opera featured a newly designed gear driven motor, which was powerful, quiet and smooth. This same motor was used in the Amberola 1B, Edison's internal horn cylinder phonograph. Many collectors believe that the combination of this motor with the large wooden horn featured on the Opera make the best listening experience available today for the 4-minute Edison cylinders. |
