Brunswick Automatic Panatrope

The 1931 Model 42 was the first Brunswick to be equipped with an automatic record changer. The records were first loaded into the tray above the turntable, and the mechanism slid the bottom record into playing position. When the record completed, it was slid to the left into the discharge compartment. The door to the discharge compartment can be seen in the photograph above the radio dial. The cabinet shown in the picture has had about five inches of leg (and stretcher) removed.

Curiously, the record changer was designed to play only 10-inch discs. Brunswick quickly announced a mod which would allow the playing of 12-inch discs, but only manually. A hack-saw was required to perform the mod.
